Welcome to MACS PE!

Move. Play. Learn. Grow.

Hello, everyone! My name is Coach Nunez, and I am the Physical Education teacher at Micanopy Area Cooperative School. I am excited to welcome our students to another year of moving, learning, and having fun!

One of the things that makes MACS special is that our students have PE every day! Physical Education is about so much more than playing games. Throughout the year, students are introduced to a variety of sports and activities while learning about movement, heart health, muscles, fitness, and healthy habits.

Our PE program also gives students opportunities to practice skills they can use both in and out of school. We work on teamwork, good sportsmanship, communication, problem-solving, following directions, and encouraging others. Students learn how to challenge themselves, try new things, and celebrate their own progress.

Whether we are learning a new sport, working toward a fitness goal, participating in Morning Mile, or just enjoying a great game together, I want every student to feel successful and excited about being active.

Most of all, we have FUN while building healthy habits that can last a lifetime!

PE Tips for Families

👟 Come Ready to Move!
We are active every day! Students should wear comfortable, school-appropriate clothing and proper shoes that allow them to safely run, jump, play, and participate.

💧 Stay Hydrated!
Florida is HOT, and staying hydrated is important when we are active. Students are encouraged to bring a labeled water bottle each day to use throughout the school day and during PE.

💬 Questions?
Communication is always welcome! If you have questions or concerns about PE, please contact Coach Lindsay Nunez through ParentSquare.

radKIDS

The radKIDS program helps students build confidence while learning important personal safety skills. Students learn about fire safety, internet safety, dog safety, bullying, personal boundaries, and how to recognize and respond to unsafe situations.

Through age-appropriate activities, students learn how to use their voice, protect themselves, and understand that no one has the right to hurt them. radKIDS instruction and activities are incorporated into PE throughout the school year.

Morning Mile

Start the day moving with Morning Mile! Students are invited to walk or run the track each morning while working toward their own mileage goals. Morning Mile begins at 7:30 am on the track behind the cafeteria and is a fun, healthy way to start the school day.

As the miles add up, so do the celebrations! Students earn foot charms to add to their landyards as they reach milestones along the way. When a student hits an incredible 100 miles, or even 200 miles, the whole school comes out to celebrate!

Our top runners also receive special shout-outs on Coffee with Coach.

Archery

Fourth- and fifth-grade students have the opportunity to participate in Archery during PE through the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP).

Students learn the fundamentals of target archery in a safe and structured environment while building focus, confidence, patience, and self-discipline. Archery also encourages students to set personal goals, challenge themselves, and celebrate their progress.

It’s a unique PE experience that gives students the chance to learn a new skill, stay focused, and have fun!
